**Job Summary**

University of Utah's Office of Technology & Venture Commercialization (TVC) is searching for a Director of Communications and Marketing who will work closely with theTVCExecutive Director,TVCmanagement team, technology managers and with University faculty and administrators in developing and supporting the communication and marketing needs forTVC. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and advancing TVC's brand and message.

This position has two specific foci:

1)TVCPromotion: Communications to promoteTVCand inform stakeholders, promoting impactful news and stories related toTVCactivities, apprisingTVCstakeholders by creating and updating content, enhancing web traffic and press contacts, and increasing communication channels forTVCand its constituent groups.

2) Invention Marketing: Aiding technology managers in the marketing process for the University invention portfolio.


Essential Functions

1.Developing annual marketing and communication plans with specific goals, strategies, and tactics.

2.Coordinating activities related to the creation, dissemination and updating ofTVCpromotional materials, social media messaging, websites, annual reports, monthly newsletter, informational bulletins and related collateral materials.

3.Liaising with faculty inventors to improve accuracy of marketing materials and facilitate contact with potential licensees.

4.Tracking and assessing individual marketing campaigns to increase effectiveness.

5.Creating and managing database of business contacts and marketing correspondence flowing through theTVC.

6.Nurturing relationships with media stakeholders including bloggers, print reporters, columnists, editorial staff and representatives of key industry opinion leaders and others in theTVCsphere of activity.

7.Working closely and coordinating with internal and external marketing and communication resources, including internal and external marketing/communication offices, consultants, faculty and staff.

8.Coordinating the planning, promotion and execution ofTVC-related events including seminars and panel discussions on innovation, patents and related technology topics.

9.Maintaining an up to date roster of all university start-ups with information on financing and development.

10.Maintaining and ensuring the accuracy of databases and mailing lists used for various internal and external marketing and communications activities.

11.Designing, implementing, and tracking marketing campaigns for individual University technologies.

12.Working with technology managers to clarify the comparative advantages and value propositions of individual technologies.

13.Assisting student employees as needed in drafting marketing materials.

Problem Solving

Incumbents in this position have the authority to manage assigned units and designated programs and services. Directs the planning and administration of the unit's budget and makes spending decisions within budget guidelines. Oversees program development for assigned units and ensures that policies and procedures are followed.

**Minimum Qualifications**

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.

Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.
