**Job Summary**

The Mountain West Digital Library (MWDL) seeks an energetic, innovative, and accomplished professional for the position of Web Development Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity to work with collaborative and enthusiastic colleagues who are dedicated to building services for digital libraries and archives. Hosted at the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah, along with the rest of theMWDLstaff, this position serves the Mountain West region as a key part of theMWDLService Hub for the Digital Public Library of America, which aggregates metadata from partnering libraries, museums, and archives in five states for sharing both regionally via theMWDLportal at .org/ and nationally via theDPLAportal at .la/.

While this position focuses primarily on assisting with auditing, editing and designing web pages on theMWDLportal that hosts collections from the various constituents (partners) ofMWDL, it will also provide an opportunity to work on social media promotions forMWDLnews, content, and collaboration efforts, while also assisting withSEO(Search Engine Optimization) tasks forMWDL. TheSEOtask set entails analyzing website traffic, collaborating withMWDLteam onSEObest practices for the web portal, and studying opportunities and trends inSEOstandards to achieve maximum visibility on the world wide web. Work across organizational lines is encouraged to support and strengthen services within theMWDLcommunity.


This position is responsible for editing and designing web pages on theMWDLwebsite (, analyzing website traffic, collaborating with team onSEObest practices for maxiimum visibility on search portals. This position will assist with social medial promotions forMWDLon relevant websites, and performing other duties as they arise.

**Minimum Qualifications**

**Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled in 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.**

For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.


The ability to perform detailed and often repetitive work on a computer. Experience with Dreamweaver, PHPStorm, or any otherSFTPinterface. General familiarity with website management tools. A working knowledge of Java,HTML,CSS, and C#, as well as programing techniques and technologies such asOOP,SFTP, gitVCS,SEO,AMP, and regex. English language skills (grammar, spelling, written and oral) a must. This position requires a person who is well-organized and can keep track of multiple assignments in a professional library environment.

Preferred major or current field of study: Computer Science.
