**Job Summary**

Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling all aspects pertaining to research functions of the Utah Program for Inherited Neuromuscular Disorders' (UPIN) internal and external customer service, staffing and financial management operations. Provides administrative structure and support toUPIN, including human resources, event planning, scheduling support, post-award account management, pre-award grant applications, supervision of study coordinators and work study students, and management of theUPINWebsite. Acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.

**Responsibilities**

oForecast, develop and implement policies and procedures in the areas of customer service, staffing and budgetary goals and objectives that are consistent with University of Utah's policies.

oProvide support on budgetary matters and impact, such as applying for grants, negotiating contracts, managing the post award reconciliation process, and ensuring that budgetary outflows do not exceed inflows. Responsible for forecasting budgets for the fiscal year for multiple projects and developing budgetary goals.

oDetermine feasibility for proposed or incoming contracts, and allocate staff effort across new and existing studies.

oPost-Award account management including account reconciliation, close out, personnel allocations, and month end reporting.

oNegotiate new contracts with sponsor and handle ongoing negotiations throughout the study to ensure proper reimbursement.

oProvide human resources support forUPINstaff. Post new and replacement positions, review & interview applicants, onboard new employees, manage vacation and time-off requests (i.e. Kronos), evaluate staff performance and provide feedback, assist with annual evaluations, and keep employee files up to date.

oFacilitate pre-award grant applications. Prepare budgets, submitDSS, collect necessary documents, and work withOSP.

oProvide scheduling support. Review conflicts, set up meetings, and respond to inquiries.

oManage and supervise research staff and student hires. Ensure competency of staff through training and development. Assign work tasks and ensure that project deadlines are met.

oManage and regularly update theUPINwebsite.

oMaintain records and develop systems to support theUPINprogram.

oPerforms other related duties as needed.

**Minimum Qualifications**

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency and 4 - 6 years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.
